Annabelle's Obituary

1918 April - 2013 September

Annabelle Ruth Kreutzer Woodard, longtime Palo Alto resident, slipped away peacefully on August 22, at the age of 95. Born April 20, 1918 in the Bronx, New York, she grew up in neighboring Yonkers, the eldest of five surviving children. She met her future husband, Vernon Woodard, while they attended the University of Minnesota. After living in several states during Vernon's military service, the family settled in Minneapolis. Vernon's career path then led them to California, where their fifth surviving child was born. Annabelle especially enjoyed sewing for her daughters, cooking for her family and celebrating every holiday in memorable style. She was known for her baking prowess and was a delightful storyteller. As the children left the nest, Annabelle uncovered her intuitive talent. She became an ordained minister and enjoyed a successful "spiritual counseling" calling for several decades. She led ongoing prayer groups and workshops. She was appreciated for her beautiful prayers. And she was thrilled to receive her B.A. degree just before turning 80! Some of her favorite pleasures were music (classical and hymns), the Atlantic ocean, birds, the Hudson River, her relationship with God, rituals and celebrations. She preferred her family all gathered around her, especially her grandchildren. Annabelle will be remembered as one who always had time to help someone who needed her, and one who loved life and made the most of it. She showed great cheerfulness, courage and strength. Annabelle is survived by her five children, Merryl Woodard of Washington state, Sharis Woodard of Sunnyvale, Keith Woodard of Santa Clara, Pamela Hammill of Sunnyvale, and Michele Berry of Tracy, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos 16575 Shannon Road, Los Gatos, CA from 1 pm - 3 pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers the family appreciates donations in her name made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or your favorite charity.
